CassetteMaster | Battery Pack Rebuild -- Centrac 100 Cassette Recorder @CassetteMaster | Uploaded 5 years ago | Updated 8 hours ago
This is a really cool cassette tape recorder from 1975. Due to attempts to recharge its old pack, while unaware that reverse polarity was being applied (boy am I a complete idiot!!), the original NiCd cells, which even WORKED originally (though did not hold a charge for all that long) were ruined. They were unable to be recovered, even after high-current pulses to the cells. So a solution was needed--to replace the old cells.
This proprietary battery pack used an odd size cell, the 2/3AA. I was able to figure out this cell size by measuring the original cell's size, and looking it up on a nice chart on:
all-battery.com/sizechart.aspx
I ordered a couple of cordless telephone 3.6V packs, and utilized four of the cells to restore the old Ni-Cad battery pack.
Now the Centrac 100 is back in service again. You may not have a Centrac 100, but you may have another proprietary pack in need of restoration. There is hope. There is hope for battery packs.
THE COMMON BATTERY--A FASCINATING INVENTION. Another site I recommend for any battery nerds out there is Battery University:
