After the batteries went flat earlier this year we thought they were ok and it was just a one off, sadly we returned to the van after a dull day with no sun to find them flat again!
Time to get some new ones then!
It seems that while we have sunshine or hook up the batteries were keeping up with our needs but their low storage capacity (probably due to the damage caused by flattening them - plus the degradation over time) became evident after a completely overcast day at the Malvern show - we have a compressor fridge so even if we're not in the van power is consumed. At almost 3 years old and being used all year round we feel ok with replacing them although in all honesty we wish they had have held on until we sold the van! ah well, the next owner will benefit.
We chose "Calcium - Calcium" batteries this time (previously AGM were fitted) these were a fairly cheap option at £95 each from Euro Car Parts with a 10% discount voucher and come with a 2 year warranty, these are 100amp hours each and the ones before were 95a/h each.
Here’s our video on adding a second battery when we got the van if it’s something you’d like to do, please only work on the van electrical items if you’re confident you know what you’re doing.
