Before I do a coverstitch I do a machine basting as close the edge that will be covered by the looper thread after coverstitching the seam. I use the basting thread as a guide for my coverstitching - the two needles are guided so the basting stitch goes in the middle of them. This results in the looper thread covering the edge of the inside seam perfectly each time. I demo this technique in this video.
