There are countless monsters of mythology that were capable of widespread death and devastation, but none as deadly as the basilisk and the cockatrice! Though their appearances vary from great snakes, to lesser dragons, to rooster dragon hybrids, the basilisk and cockatrice were said to have poisonous breath, a venomous bite that puts all others to shame, and most dreadful of all...the ability to instantly kill any who dare look it in the eyes. The basilisk and cockatrice have been staples of Medieval bestiaries and modern fantasy...but are they the same creature or two separate monsters?
