Today we’re covering the NEXT challenger to @BambuLab: the @softwarefreedomconservancy8558!
They’re taking a close look at Bambu’s open source violations, and their findings are already VERY interesting. We break down the AGPL issues around Bambu Studio, the closed bambu_networking library, and Paweł Jarczak’s OrcaSlicer work. We also look at the Conservancy’s new projects to reverse-engineer Bambu’s networking plugin, support an OrcaSlicer fork for Bambu printers, and vow to keep a much closer eye on 3D printing companies that may not be following open source rules. If you make software, firmware, slicers, or printers using open source code, this is the kind of scrutiny you really do not want pointed at you.
