The Variant Scythe is pretty sick in this game. Biggest range and high damage. Its got some really good Burst Arts and is pretty easy to use. Above all, its a fun weapon.

It kinda feels like more of an all-round powerhouse shaving off enemy HP now. Whereas before it kinda use to feel like you were trying to mow the lawn with a scissors unless you used a bba.

Execution is back. Activation window is more or less the same but feels slightly more delayed than in GE2RB. Also yields a lot more hits the closer you stand to the Aragami and is proficient at breaking parts. I was about to use it in the video but Balmung died on the hit I was gonna activate it. orz

Still, being able to get through fights easily while only using one or two Burst Arts is how you know you've got a good weapon. Especially if you got good Air Burst Arts, then you're pretty much set for all fights.

As you can see, Balmung's devour attack can't ascend or descend ledges. You can exploit the terrain to fight him without worry, but he sometimes climbs things during his devour when you least expect it so be careful.
Even so, he probably has the easiest Devour to deal with aside from Ra.

Funny story, in my country's slang, 'Bal' can be short for your nut sack and 'Mung' means to either hunt and kill or to catch.

So every time I fight this Lion I'm like: "Plz don't mung my bal (;_;)" or "Hey Hugo, Don't get your bal munged." or when someone gets devoured "Oof Zeke just got his bal munged."

Yes, I am aware of the origin of the name Balmung because I read more books about mythology than textbooks in high school, but still its just how my mind wanders when Hugo doesn't give me Link Burst Bullets and I want to insult him for getting devoured.

I personally think the Arctic Block is more execution heavy, but the Lab Block beats it in sheer duration and the factor of randomness. Its got the longest first half in the game, a miniboss that is a dice roll in every sense of the word, and Autochrome who is one of the games more challenging bosses. Lets talk about it. The first half has 2 branches with lots of enemies which simply makes routing it a pain. The gear enemies deserve special mention because you cant bounce into them from their top half or you straight up get hit. You have to whirl them with the wheel first if you cant hit them from below. That one room with the 2 gear boiz covered with lasers is especially spicy if you play on normal and have OD because whirling the second one is kind of painstaking. The miniboss is a piece of shit, to be honest with you. When I say dice roll, I am not joking. 6 faces and the one you need to kill can appear anywhere(not under HUD?), 6 phases that can each rob you if you get caught napping. Basically, the fate of your run is in the cards. Its so bad that if you lose runs in this room, you cant even complain. This miniboss is 100% without a doubt, like this on purpose. These guys definitely know what randomness can do to a run and putting this damn thing and Autochrome with his randomness in the same mission is the cherry on top of what is clearly the Yeah, this one is supposed to be hard mission. The second half is actually ridiculously fun. You can just go as fast as you want and having lasers exploding behind you really does feel good. This one is all execution and you can run it perfectly every time if you practice enough, which is kind of the beauty of this game imo. The enemies that look like a ( 。 ) are also commendable. They are actually a trap that punishes sloppy movement because if you hit the sides, you get flung outwards and cannot bullit dash out of the sequence. You can recover if you react with Whirling Chopper or Wall Jump, but if you hit the sides, the run is generally ggs. Then we make it to Autochrome. Earlier I said he has randomness, but I am referring to the pattern set you get. In essence, he has a pattern where he favors the Refracting Beam and a pattern where he favors the Lock On & Optic Barrier. It takes a while to figure this out and Im reasonably sure other bosses have similar logic, but its especially pronounced on Autochrome. Why this is a pain is because, if you get the pattern where Lock on & Optic Barrier is favored, the time on the run really gets killed because its really, really hard to punish safely. Those lock ons move too fast for my old eyes, man. My approach to this fight probably looks boring, but its extremely efficient and actually hype AF if you know whats going on. You can get a full punish on the butterfly looking attack if you position yourself properly and throw out the wheel preemptively. This is calculated though because the Refracting Beam attack blows this up so you can only do this if you are fairly experienced in how his patterns work. The extra sauce is that he is actually weak to Whirling Chopper so if you dont space yourself perfectly and react with the chopper only when you see the green ring, youll hit him for 25% of a lifebar and lose all that kudos. The fact his green ring blocks the chopper on his wings but not his main body is such a fun nuance to this fight that really rewards people who pay attention and never stop trying things. I love it. This run might actually be a High Score. No shots missed, score maximized at every opportunity. I even did the head on collision and near miss at the last second thing by using the wheel right up until he was exactly at ~1% HP and killing with super. Damn, I have tried this mission countless times just to get a time thats under 6min and not get killed by randomness, then I go and bet everything on this one moment and actually pull through? Luckiest run of my life. This is gonna sit alongside the very few videos Ive made over the years where I actually managed to impress my ultra elitist and perfectionist self.
