Successful vestibular migraine treatment requires a multi-pronged approach that may include avoiding triggers, dietary changes, taking supplements, and/or even prescription drugs. However, as an adjunct treatment, there are also exercises that can be performed to help minimize the vestibular symptoms of this condition. Such symptoms may include vertigo, dizziness, light headedness, imbalance, or some other altered sense of dysequilibrium. Keep in mind that these exercises will not help with the migraine aspect of this condition which requires more traditional approaches for resolution.

It is normal that these exercises may exacerbate dizziness at first since these movements deliberately stimulate your balance system. But by challenging the vestibular system, it also helps activate and strengthen other balance support systems that ultimately will help improve and hopefully resolve the dizziness over time.

Any increased symptoms that you feel with these exercises should dissipate within about 20 minutes. If the dizziness lasts longer than that, then you're pushing too hard. In this situation, back off and perhaps decrease the repetitions or decrease the speed of your movements. You can also try breaking up the exercises with rest breaks.

To start, do these exercises once a day. As you progress, you can try adding a second or third session for the day. You can also break up the sessions and do a few of the exercises in the morning, and the rest at a different time of day if that's more tolerable for you.
