Here is the final version of my arrangement of Yael Naims (Im a) New Soul. I hope you enjoy it! There is the main melodic line, which I play in the video, and two solo lines: one with pentatonic runs (Right Channel), and the other, high notes (Left Channel), that youll hear at the end. Enjoy! About this tune:
I first heard this tune my senior year in high school when Miles Davis made somewhat of a comeback on national TV performing live on Saturday Night Live, Oct. 17, 1981, playing this simple, rather child-like melody. (Occasionally you can find this particular SNL segment on youtube). The performance was quite memorable, to say the least. And I seem to recall at the time the tune had no title. Miles would sometimes tell people to call it whatever or something similar when it came to naming a tune he was working on. I think that was the case with this one. Anyway, about nine months later, fresh out of high school and enjoying the last true vacation Id ever have, I was driving through St. Loius and heard Jean Pierre on the radio! I couldnt believe my ears, it was so cool hearing it again!! KWMU Radio was playing the latest Miles release, We Want Miles. Jean Pierre (recorded live in Japan) was the first track of the double-LP set.
