this is actual audio from a phone convo between 10 year old me and my stepmom, who would successfully win custody just a year later (and genuinely i feel like my childhood ended then, as 99% of my true passions were forced to be suppressed)
she sounds sweet at the start but then goes on about how various things i liked were unacceptable for someone my age to enjoy and they wouldn't be allowed under her roof. barney was sort of understandable, but then again i am autistic (something she also denied) and the last thing was referring to the brave little toaster, which... yeah your ass did NOT watch the movie but even if it was lighthearted, it's still totally ok for any age -_-
posting this because for years all i had to go on about their abuse was my own memory. they'd won the court cases, everyone was on their side. this is a small taste (and she's still putting on a front because my actual mom was in the room during this call) but at least i finally have something tangible to show her toxic parenting methods (also a side of harry potter glaze which hits so much worse now)
also yeah i miss my friend carah. she was my next door neighbor and moved away not long after this.
