Ferrari have distanced even further in both championships, and now Leclerc is almost 100 points behind Verstappen. What’s even more worrying for them is that Perez has passed him for P2, and Russell and Sainz are closing on him for the 3rd spot in the drivers’ championship. Although the team has managed to extend the lead for P2 in the constructors’ championship, it’s worth mentioning that Hamilton retired prematurely in Spa, and Russell was left alone to fight both Ferrari drivers. Nevertheless, after the race, Binotto made an assessment regarding the gap that Ferrari has to Red Bull, and it seems like in the next few races, the Italian team has nothing to hope for.
When it comes to the championship fight, this season has been a roller coaster in the first couple of races. However, ever since then, the Austrian team managed to absolutely demolish the competition and distance themselves from the rest of the pack. Both Red Bull drivers are P1 and P2, a feature that hasn’t been done since the glory days of Vettel and Webber back in 2011. The car was performing extremely well even though it was 8kgs more than the minimum weight, making it one of the heaviest cars on the grid. Now, with the new upgrade it brought, Ferrari's chances have been limited to hopes that Red Bull will fail miserably in the remainder of the season, more precisely in the last 8 races in 2022.
