Really proud of the production on this album so I wanted to share the instrumentals :) I attempted to turn my production process on its head in many ways. All song ideas (except "On and On") were begun on the OP-1 Field. Every idea was loop-based, which made me focus more on simplicity and rhythm. Most of the songs were begun while living in Paris and London, or on tour in Southeast Asia. Setting creative limitations was a big part of this process too; for example, I challenged myself to avoid starting any song on the guitar, and to avoid using crash cymbals on the entire record (I ended up using a crash in one single instance). I also challenged myself to write zero songs about the emotion of being in love, because it felt contrived at the time, and doing so would somehow give in to a perceived expectation of me. During the creation process, I was listening to a lot of Nujabes, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Jai Paul, and Akira Yamaoka, among others. For me these songs represented a solo journey of feeling ungrounded, exploring identity, loss, and trying to reconnect with what made music so fulfilling in the first place. Thank you for sticking with me through this experimental phase and letting me examine the corners of my brain.
