Netherlands Bach Society | Bach - WTC II Prelude and fugue no. 11 in F major BWV 880 - Schornsheim | Netherlands Bach Society @bach | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 1 hour ago
This eleventh majestic prelude from the 'Wohltemperirte Clavier II' can perhaps been seen as Bach's answer to the prélude non mesuré - a seventeenth-century French phenomenon where the performer was given a lot of freedom in interpreting the music. The prelude has the allure of a chorale, with uncommon flair. Followed by a playful fugue that abruptly ends the hymnic calm of the prelude.
We recorded Bach’s first book of the 'Wohltemperirte Clavier' at the homes of 24 different musicians. For the second book, performed in its entirety by Christine Schornsheim, we chose 12 very different locations in Utrecht, to celebrate the 900th anniversary of our home city.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on 13 February 2022 at Stadion Galgenwaard, Utrecht, the Netherlands. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/3J5uprM.
