Join Cicada Carpenter on a journey past the edges of the maps, where there be monsters. This workshop will teach you basic techniques for how to design interesting and cohesive beasts, with a special look at creature design within a worldbuilding context. You'll learn how to blend real-world inspiration with out-of-this-world creativity, and how to tell a visual story through your character design. Vampires, 'mons, eldritch gods, arcade minions, aliens, and everything in between are all welcome aboard!
Bring a pencil, a tablet, a crayon, or your medium of choice if you'd like to design along! While much of this workshop is geared towards visual art, anyone of any skill level or art form is welcome. All you need is an appreciation for strange beings!
Cicada Carpenter (they/them) is a storyteller and game developer who haunts the wilds of Colorado. They started making their own fantastical bestiaries after watching too much Pokemon as a kid, and they just never really stopped. You can find their work at shadybug.dev! -- Watch live at twitch.tv/babycastles

In Aram Bartholls project First Person Shooter a now iconic screen-element, adapted from the videogame Counter-Strike, is transferred into physical space. Players can cut and glue parts from a do-it-yourself kit together and receive a pair of glasses bearing the protagonists arm with the weapon. datenform.de/fpseng.html JODI, or jodi.org, are unanimously considered pioneers of new media art. Their work Composite Club is a conceptual hack of the popular Eyetoy device involving Playstations camera-based games being triggered by prerecorded video clips. compositeclub.cc Mary Mack 5000 by Kaho Abe & Lina Fenequito is a fast-paced, competitive, technologically enhanced rocker-twist on the classic schoolyard hand clapping game that challenges your rhythm, speed and timing.
