A mother and her nine-month-old baby have been pulled alive from the rubble of a collapsed building in Venezuela after devastating earthquakes struck the country.

American rescuers said the pair were found with only minor injuries and brought to safety to cheers from neighbours, with the US Department of State writing: “Against impossible odds, hope endures.”
