The mechanism for an Aza-Achmatowicz reaction which involves the oxidative rearrangement of furanylamines into the corresponding piperidinones. The Aza-Achmatowicz is most commonly accomplished with m-CPBA, however the reaction is also possible with the use of bromine. Many of the product of these reactions are building blocks that are useful scaffolds in the synthesis of bioactive compounds and natural products.
