"Madina," released July 2026, is an Arabic-language record that blends Arabic tarab traditions with Spanish flamenco guitar to create a truly international sound. Bridging classical heritage with contemporary storytelling, “Madina” explores identity and belonging through an imagined place that ultimately reflects an internal journey.
Born to a Palestinian family with roots in Tantura and raised in Syria, Aya Samra is one of the most compelling emerging voices in contemporary Arab music. Influenced by legendary Arab artists, including Asmahan, Fairuz, Umm Kulthum, and Warda, and global pop stars, like Celine Dion, Lara Fabian, and Mariah Carey, she has developed a sound that bridges Eastern musical traditions with contemporary influences and reimagines golden-era Arab music for a new generation. Samra first broke out in early 2025 when a video of her performing Asmahan's classic "Ya Habibi Taala" went viral on social media, garnering more than 100 million views. Her 2025 debut original single, "For Life," paid tribute to Gaza, with proceeds supporting humanitarian relief efforts. She has performed across European and Arab stages, including the Souk Utrecht festival, Berlin’s Kiez Festival, Frankfurt’s Kulturkampf Open Air, and the All Eyes on Gaza rally in Berlin in 2025. Currently based in Berlin, Aya Samra is preparing her debut EP, which is inspired by her 30-day journey by foot from Syria to Germany.
