Originally written, recorded, and released by country musician and songwriter Dallas Frazier in 1965, "Elvira" is today a standard in American popular music. Covered by several artists, including Kenny Rogers and the First Edition and Rodney Crowell, the song has seen many lives over the decades. In 1981, The Oak Ridge Boys released their version of "Elvira," featured on their album 'Fancy Free.' Their version of the song sold platinum, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and became their most widely known record. At the 1982 Grammys, The Oak Ridge Boys won the Grammy for Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for "Elvira"; the song's original songwriter, Dallas Frazier, also received a Grammy nomination for Best Country Song that same year.
