Such crisp images. Footage by Katia and Maurice Krafft (1942-1991 & 1946-1991). This film is from 2022. The music in these scenes was composed by Gabriel Fauré, Giuseppe Verdi, Johann Sebastian Bach and Richard Wagner.
Apart from the transitions (which are abrupt even in the film itself), I have made no edits apart from changing the audio in the final 30 seconds; I wanted to include the shot without mangling Herzog's narration. I used a different piece from the same opera ("Tristan und Isolde") that Herzog selected for that scene. In the context of this compilation it serves only as a brief epilogue.
I recommend anyone watch the whole film, and of course, no disrespect is intended by cutting Herzog's requiem for Katia and Maurice Krafft. We are indebted to them for their courage in capturing these amazing images, and to Herzog for collating them as they deserved to be seen.
