The first painting depicts the Battle of Clontarf in 1014, by Hugh Frazer, 1826. Under the canopy Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, lays dying. In the foreground Murchad mac Briain is engaged in hand to hand combat with Jarl Sigurðr digri (Sigurd the Stout) of Orkney.
