The Petermann Ice Island has produced a once in a life time sea kayaking experience in the St. Anthony region of Western Newfoundland. In early August, 2011 it grounded just off shore and began breaking up sending dozens of icebergs toward the shore. Always give icebergs a wide berth since they are unpredictable and may tip over or calve off ice chunks with little warning.
