Optical mice have been commonly available since 1999 and there are vast differences from the former ball mouse. In this video we discuss how an optical mouse works and open it up for a closer look. We will also modify this mouse to give a visual look at what the optical CCD camera in a mouse actually sees to make decisions on direction of travel, distance and velocity.
