(Ooof it has been a hot minute since I've released my last video LOL - Idk, there has been so much on my mind for the past 2 weeks and I've been to therapy and a festival, along with getting a new hobby, and, and, and-)
Anyway, here are finally my Awake MEP parts for Multi_exe's upcoming Multifandom MEP: youtube.com/watch?v=2VkIMK_4n-8
I really wanted to help out with this one since it has so many parts and those 2 suited some of my faves (which you can see here) so there was no reason for me not to join.
I tried to stick more to the lyrics as the music itself was a biiiit too fast for my personal taste, but I still managed to make the clips fit so that's pretty ok^^. I started off with the beginning of "Look inside (...)" where Karis Nemik is following their plan of disguising as an Imperial soldier (just as a sort of introduction), followed by his naively heroic worldview being shaken when he learns that his new Senpai Cassian Andor is actually a mercenary. Dspite this, after a quick and serious conversation he thinks about it, literally "looking inside" of himself, his view and feelings on others. "With darkness my tears collide" we see Nemik during one of his only comforting moments where he's sharing food during their late-night grouping around the campfire, only to see his friends die in the crossfire with the Empire next day, where we briefly see him realizing that his friends are indeed dying. At "Sinking into the shrine of me (...)" contains both this and his "shrine"? (I just kinda wanted a metaphor for him actually being quite good at defending himself and his group. "I'm ready to be set free" marks the character's meaning where we learn how dedicated he his to his political views and being a freedom fighter who is rather emotional and sensitive and kinda naive, but still manages to be powerful by fighting with his brain/soul. "I'm ready to be set free" takes a jump into the future where, therefore, the only thing left of Nemik after his death is his manifesto which is still able to spark a rebellion, followed by me actually showing him getting squashed by the spaceship's luggage at "I'm sick as I die (...)". (He dies a few hours later, actually, but you get the idea).
Transitioning into Frodo Baggins, who falls in into ghostly waters at the suitable "(...) in the air I breathe" due to being hypnotized by the ring, and being able to breathe underwater because of its powers. "I feel alive" has Frodo's last real boost of energy and desperate motivation where he runs up the rest of Mount Doom to destroy the ring, being horribly scarred (physically and mentally) and I think this is where he feels this boost of "being alive", despite this, along with him believing in hope and in himself while calling to the magic elven water to defend himself against Shelob. "My self-portrait suicide" is obviously Frodo literally looking at his own reflection in Galadriel's magical mirror in a sort of quiet and shy way with the drastic contrast of his ring-damaged self later on who risks his life attacking Gollum in pure fury to get his ring back (which was quie literally a borderline suicidal act to show his obsession). "Tonight is no time to die" is a new scene of Moria's Watcher attacking Frodo and his friends saving him which is supposed to be a stand-in for all the moments of extreme danger Frodo survives, closing off at "And now I'm awake" with a bright and happy ending scene of Frodo successfully completing his mission and reuniting with his friends in bright light as a picture of hope in strong contrast to Karis Nemik's sad and dramatic death during his mission, mostly devoid from hope and color.
As you can see, I've used only simple blending to avoid distraction from the scenes and having a contrast in color by turning Karis' saturation down and Frodo's up, to show two charcrers who are quite similar in personality (and looks), one being an active and volunteering, passionate freedom-fighter, one a carefree and positive everyman being dragged into a war and choosing to put himself through hell to safe the world and his friends. Both more sensitive and suffering mostly in silence while still being strong in the heat of the moment, one a main character sucessfully completing his mission, reuiniting with his friends in a happy, hopeful moment, the other one a side character dying in agony during his mission who his essentially being forgotten by the narrative.
