Training to get in shape does NOT need to be complicated. It just needs to be sufficiently challenging, within your capacity, and done consistently. Most people, ESPECIALLY beginners, do not need complicated training routines. Certainly, there is a case for advanced training techniques for advanced athletes but this is a small percentage of the population. If you just want to get fit and become more capable, simplicity is your best bet. Don't get caught up in chasing the "optimal" routine; you can never know what optimal is, so getting stressed out in the pursuit of it is just not necessary. If you like your routine, and it's working for you, then keep at it! If you are confused, program hopping, or feeling like your training is too complicated, simplify your routine and focus on the things that matter, like consistency, intention, effort, etc.
