The pain of consequences isn’t the only way to learn. In fact, it’s often the last resort. Scripture is filled with wisdom, not just to inform us—but to spare us. God graciously gives instruction so we don’t have to walk blindly into the same mistakes over and over again.
Proverbs 19:20 says, “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” Wise people don’t wait until life falls apart—they humble themselves, listen, and learn from godly counsel before the fallout hits.
As parents, mentors, and followers of Christ, we should model this and teach it: choose the path of wisdom before consequences force your hand. God disciplines, yes—but only after first inviting us to walk in the way that leads to life.
Instruction is a gift. Let’s not waste it.
