Does it feel like parenting is just a never-ending battle?
If you watch parenting videos on Instagram, it can feel like every interaction with kids ends in a calm heart-to-heart and a sweet hug.
Most parents know that's not real life. A lot of parenting young kids is dealing with two wills colliding. Your child runs on impulse. You are bringing wisdom and perspective they do not have yet. That means many of your daily interactions will include some conflict. But it's normal.
By the time kids are around 18 months old, they need to start getting comfortable with hearing the word "no." And "no" almost always brings tension. That does not mean you are doing something wrong. It often means you are doing the right thing.
Scripture reminds us that children need guidance and correction from the start: "Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him." (Proverbs 22:15). So take heart. Hard moments do not mean you are failing. They are often the everyday moments where wisdom, patience, and character start to take root in your child. Keep going; the work you are doing matters.
