Aviation Tales #1 . . . Believe It or Not!
In this video I will go over five interesting stories from the history of aviation . . . Believe it or not!
These stories are all true and provide a fascinating backdrop to the history of flight.
The first story concerns the Boeing 314 Clipper, and its inability to turn on its first test flight due to the single rudder being blanked by airflow.
The second story covers the British use of the F4U Corsair in World War 2. The Corsairs with their wings folded would not fit in the hangar deck of some British carriers, with the result the Brits simply cut 8 inches off each wing tip.
The third story discusses the use of female B-29 pilots to shame male pilots into flying the B-29 as the flight crews were very concerned over engine fires.
The fourth story shows the use of L-4 observation aircraft (Piper Cubs) on LST ships with makeshift runways.
The fifth story covers the Bristol Brabazon, a huge piston powered airliner developed in 1949. By failing to predict the international airliner market, only a single Brabazon was built and eventually sold for scrap.
