I'm sorry this video is late, but I hope you enjoy it all the same! This is my experience behind the scenes of Avengers Infinity War!
At the end of March 2017, Edinburgh, Scotland, was in an Avengers: Infinity War frenzy! Newspapers were posting about the stars and their arrivals, a 400+ crew, the shooting schedules, and the city was being warned of when certain areas would see some controlled explosions and night drone shots. Marvel Fans were joining together to stalk, I mean, learn all they could about the film schedules… and yup, you guessed it, that included me!
The main filming locations were in Old Town, Edinburgh, but a crew changed a 160,000 sq ft, blue, Leith warehouse into a studio for the other shots.
My first stop was Waverly Station with my friend Audrey where a giant area was blocked off, a 40 ft tall greenscreen wall was put up, and a fake station was created. There was also filming going on on the South Bridge. From the look of it, it was to get shots of the roof of Waverly Station. Later that night, Audrey and I were back with Joe and my friend Ash.
We found it really entertaining that everything said, “Mary Lou” on it to try and keep what they were filming a secret….when EVERYONE knew exactly what was being filmed.
Stars spotted in Edinburgh consist of: Paul Bettany who plays Vision, Scarlett Johansson aka Black Widow, Elizabeth Olsen aka Scarlet Witch, Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and last, but not least, Mark Ruffalo aka the Incredible Hulk. Some of these stars even found their faces in the newspapers for partying and dining locally and many were tagged on Twitter taking pictures and signing autographs with local fans. I personally never went so far as to wait for them to return from shooting in the hotel they were staying in…. but I almost regret that now.
We mostly saw things getting set up, as most of the action took place very late at night and the security got much heavier at those times. …No, we weren’t escorted away from a set by a laughing police officer! …. Ok yeah, we were asked to leave and escorted away from the set in Waverly Station by a cop… Did you know I’m kind of a badass? Well! Now you do!
Fake sets have gone up on Cockburn Street including: a fake kebab shop where Miss Katie Cupcake shop was, a fake restaurant called Leila’s and fake padded cobblestones have been placed over the real ones to protect the stunt doubles. So when I hear they were practicing the stunts for filming the next day (when security would be much higher), I ran to go see what I could get on film.
I also got to watch them film by St Giles Cathedral, but it was right after I closed at work so I didn’t have my camera to film anything. It was so cool though! People were fighting on the roof and explosions went off next to it! It was epic!
Edinburgh was not the only location in Scotland that filming for Avengers: Infinity War took place in. They also filmed in Glasgow, St Abbs, the Scottish Borders, and at numerous castles throughout Scotland.
