HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! For our last day in Prague we hopped on a train and took a day trip to see the famous Bone Church which features the skeletons from between 40,000 and 70,000 bodies! It attracts 200,000 tourists each year.
In 1278, an abbot from the monastery trecked to the Holy Land and returned with soil which he spread around the cemetery. This act made the burial site incredibly popular! Many of the remains seen today are plague victims from 1318 and victims from the Hussite War during the 15th century. After 1511, a monk began exhuming the bodies and creating piles, but it wasn't until 1870 that František Rint that the bones were bleached and arranged the way they're seen today.
