Making fire is one of man's key skills for survival, essential right at the very beginning of our existence in the stone age, it keeps us warm, cooks our food and warns off predators! And it's something we take for granted in the modern world with matches and lighters readily available, BUT could you light a fire if you found yourself stranded in the wilderness with little or no equipment and supplies? Travelling down on a Friday night I meet up with youtube.com/@Wild.cat.adventures?si=-gQ0rboEgqWpaYzI Cat and I arrived at site late, and it was pitch dark, so we had to set up camp by torchlight before catching up round a campfire, then getting our heads down for the night. Up bright and early in the morning we get breakfast and head down to class for the day, can we master the likes of flint and steel, or even the infamous bow drill? Once class had finished for the day we headed back to camp, cooked some food, and had a chat with the instructor round the campfire. Two nights spent in the woodland, and autumn really is the best time to do it, burnt copper leaves everywhere, and an abundance of sweet chestnuts and deadly mushrooms everywhere!
