Cycling through Oirase Gorge in Aomori is a great way to see autumn colors in Japan. This spot is pretty popular though so expect to be cycling with a lot of other traffic.
Equally as fun is Genbikei Gorge in Iwate prefecture where you can buy dango using a flying fox and hike along the river, viewing the fall foliage.
