So my buddy Mike Heller helped me out with some drum tracks for my old amp test "song"...
Mike's an amazing player, fast but interesting and very dynamic, I really wanted to keep his tone and vibe, so it was important for me to keep the drums real and organic...
yet I wanted them to still sound modern and punchy and have every little detail and fiddly bit audible even in a dense metal context with thick walls of guitars...
So I automated pretty much every individual element of the kit in an attempt to get "modern" punch and clarity without having to trigger and sample replace everything....
Here's what the volume automation for the drum channels looks like on the board.
