This isn't a complete comparison of course, both amps have different strengths and weaknesses, this is just ONE tiny glimps of one of the sounds you can get from a Rectifier, but it's the sound I'm using the most, a boosted modern high gain metal sound...So I used this sound for a comparison.
a complete comparison/review/playthrough might follow, but that's a whole other endeavur, of course.
This clip is just about that one modern metal tone and how the Rectifier Mini stacks up to its big brother.
Settings: the RevF Dual was set to rehearsal room volumes, the mini slightly softer (not by much though, but it's in the nature of low wattage power amps to have a less stable bass response at high volumes, and that's ok, cause these small amps aren't necessarily meant to be played as loud as their big counterparts, so I just turned the volume down a notch in order to keep the low end from getting mushy in the power section...but make no mistake, it was still fucking loud! ;)
I started with identical settings on both amps but then reduced the mids slightly on the Mini (just under 9:00 on mini, 10:00 on dual) and increased the bass a bit (1:30 on mini, 12:00 on dual).
I made those adjustments to get the mini to sound closer to what I like from my Dual, the mini is a bit leaner below 200Hz and has a bit more midrange in the 550Hz region (the nature of using a smaller el84 power section, I guess).
I know, it doesn't sound identical, but I wouldn't say it's night/day differences either, especially not in a full mix. The Mini clearly has that typical Rectifier texture, just with a bit less low end and a bit more mids. But it's quite clearly a rectifier and sounds like one
