You can teach dogs to be mindful of your movement on walks for safety. Here I am demoing how you can teach your dogs to automatically stop if they hear you stop. If you have a deaf dog you just need to get them to walk where they can see you and seeing you stop is the cue to stop.

I have my little dogs, close to me and dragging leashes when I walk in places where there are predators like coyotes or loose farm dogs just incase one comes out of a bush. I do walk them off leash in safer places with the ability to see in the distance in all directions.

In the video the dogs are stopping when they hear my footsteps stop abruptly, and walking when they hear my feet begin to walk again.
