Hi guys and welcome back. In this video, we will be talking about the earliest known and the first of the autralopithecines that lived over 4 million years ago. This earliest known australopith was discovered by Meave Leakey, Alan Walker and a few more paleoanthropologists.Fossils of this speciesincluding upper and lower jaws, cranial fragments, upper and lower parts of a leg bonewere found in 1994 in the Kanapoi and Allia Bay of Lake Turkana, Kenya.
With the name meaning southern ape in the turkana language, the species that we are going to discuss today is Australopithecus anamensis. Before the fossils were discovered in 1994, in 1965, a research team led by Bryan Patterson from Harvard University discovered a single arm bone of an early human at the same site of Kanapoi in northern Kenya, but without additional fossils, Patterson could not confidently identify the species to which it belonged
