In this video, I unbox and take a closer look at the **Austral Security Screen Door Lock Elegance XC in Primrose – ALEL/PRM**.
The Austral Elegance is a mortice-style security screen door lock commonly used on residential security and screen doors around Australia.

I'll show you what the lock looks like straight out of the box, go over the handles and lock body, explain the main functions and take a closer look at some of the features that make the Austral Elegance different from a standard screen door lock.
### 🔐 Austral Elegance Screen Door Lock
The **Austral Elegance XC** is designed for hinged security screen doors and features a self-latching locking system.
When the door closes, the grooved latchbolt automatically engages with the strike. The latch can then be retracted using either the inside or outside lever when the lock is unlocked.
The lock is also reversible, making it suitable for different door handing configurations.
### 🔑 Unique Caretaker Function
One of the interesting features of the Austral Elegance is its **Caretaker one-way locking function**.
The Caretaker function allows the lock to be **snib locked from the outside using a Caretaker key**.
However, the Caretaker key cannot be used to unlock the lock.
This is an unusual feature, and in the video I'll take a closer look at the lock and explain how the different functions work.
