On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America is going to be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone inside the trail of totality will see one in all nature’s most awe exalting sights – a complete occultation. This path, where the moon can fully cover the sun and therefore the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona – is often seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path can still see a partial eclipse where the moon covers a part of the sun’s disk.
