Our Permanent Water Quality team isn't afraid to get their hands dirty to protect our state waterways and roadside ecosystems. Our team of mother-nature-loving maintainers work hand in hand with CDOT’s Environmental team to:
• Keep urban water quality control measures (infrastructure that captures garbage, salt and sediment) clean
• Find, identify and remove invasive weeds near state highways
• Pick up garbage along state roadways (Tarp your load, truckers!)
• Clear and repair rural drainage systems like culverts
• Manage technology and policy to minimize the use of snow and ice control products while balancing the need for public safety
… all to safeguard the environment and create a healthier, more beautiful Colorado.

A few busted knuckles and callouses are a small price to pay to keep CDOTs heavy machinery and equipment in service and ready to assist those who use our transportation system. At the shop or out in the field, take a behind-the-scenes look at the work of CDOT mechanics like Ryan Smith in Grand Junction. From repairing massive loaders to introducing electric vehicles into the fleet, CDOT mechanics keep our equipment operational. Without them, our open roads and the machines that maintain them wouldn’t stay open very long.
