The I-70 Mountain Express Lanes help improve your mountain travel, but they operate a bit differently than regular Express Lanes.
Unlike other Express Lanes, all vehicles must pay a toll, without exception for HOV3+ or motorcycles. Oversized vehicles, such as trucks and trailers, are not permitted. When closed, these lanes are used as shoulders for emergencies only.
When it comes to weaving, the same rules apply: only enter and exit an open express lane through the dashed line. Crossing the solid line poses a safety risk and will result in fines.
As narrow shoulder lanes, federal regulations limit how often Mountain Express Lanes can be open. Look out for signage or visit ColoradoExpressLanes.com for general operating hours and additional information.
You can also sign up for the new Mountain Express Lanes text alert service to receive regular updates on unplanned openings, closures or delays. Sign up now by texting “xpresslanes” to 2100.

![[Audio Description] CDOT Colorado Fiber Installation
Who manages and builds Colorado’s largest fiber network? We do. CDOTs fiber teams serve the traveling public statewide by installing and maintaining Colorados digital infrastructure. We use high-speed fiber to power electronic sensors that detect and collect vehicle and roadway information, monitor weather conditions through a network of weather stations, enable automatic vehicle location technology to improve transit schedule reliability, and program traffic signal systems to adapt their timing in response to traffic congestion.
CDOTs fiber optic network supports Colorado rural broadband services and community internet access, assists in managing the transportation system, and monitors statewide traffic conditions. We implement technologies to communicate better, decrease travel times and create a safer driving environment. Learn more about our team and how we do what we do. At CDOT, we do more than you think.
