Join me as I test A *GENUINELY* RARE PIECE OF of Sinclair Spectrum history.
This Spectrum 48k+ was sitting in my "to fix" pile for a about seven years when I decided that I needed to fix and sell them after a recent flood damaged my house.
When I opened the Spectrum I found a strange sticker and an even stranger ULA. Not the standard Ferranti type, but one made by AMI in Austria and marked as SAGA-1A.
I shared this information in the Spectrum 4Ever group on facebook and no-one has seen an actual physical SAGA ULA in real life, although it was mentioned in the Service Manual. The assumption is that they were planned but never came to market due to a price cut by Ferranti which pushed AMI out of the deal. It would appear that this is a rare pre-production batch test ULA. The odd thing is that it runs nice and cool, unlike the Ferranti chip which runs very hot. I demonstrate this in the video. There is also a LOT less components on this board.
I *really* don't want to sell this but needs must. I hope it goes to someone who will be able to unlock it's mysteries!... and I can get a new kitchen ceiling...
