Here's the finale of my tour of Auckland's emerging cycle network outside of the central business district by Christopher Dempsey. Filmed on March 5, 2026, after an early morning coffee meet-up of Bike Auckland volunteers. You'll see high-quality, protected, and separated bike lanes, safer pedestrian crossings, as well as some creative but not quite ready-for-prime-time "temporary" cycle infrastructure. Since Auckland is a very car-dependent city, these efforts could serve as good inspiration for other communities struggling to make progress in creating more livable streets for all ages and abilities.
