Two Chinese nationals were killed and at least one Chinese and seven Pakistanis were wounded in a blast outside Karachi’s airport on October 6, 2024. They were part of a convoy carrying a team of Chinese engineers and other workers assigned to work on a Chinese-funded power plant project in Pakistan. The Baloch Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the attack. The separatist militant group has actively targeted Chinese interests in the country in recent years, as Beijing and Islamabad have ramped up economic cooperation and developed several projects in the southwestern province of Balochistan.
