Star Wars: The Arcade Game, released in May 1983 by Atari, Inc. Star Wars is a first-person rail shooter that brought the epic space battles of the beloved 1977 film to the arcade scene. Utilizing 3D color vector graphics, the game immerses players in the climactic assault on the Death Star, allowing them to step into the cockpit of an X-Wing and relive one of the most iconic moments in cinematic history.
Not only could you fly Luke's X-Wing for the first time but it also had speech synthesis. Specifically, Atari used a Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) technique, a form of early digital speech synthesis that compressed and played back voice samples from the original Star Wars film..
