The Secrets of the Universe | Astronomical Error in Titanic! @TheSecretsoftheUniverse | Uploaded March 2023 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.
When astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson watched Titanic, he pointed out an astronomical error in the movie. In the scene in which Rose is lying on the driftwood and looking up at the night sky, the positions of the stars are shown wrong. He pointed out that the star field Rose sees on the night of the sinking of Titanic is inaccurate. Years later, when Tyson met James Cameron, the film director, at an event and discussed his error, Cameron replied, “Last I checked, Titanic had grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. Imagine how much more it would have grossed had I gotten the sky correct.”
But Cameron did ask Tyson to send the accurate star field and got it right in the movie.
