A play of Fernando Herrera's, Astro Chase, published by First Star Software for the Atari 8-bit in 1982.
Herrera had earlier written an educational program for the Atari 8-bit family called My First Alphabet. The program was published by the Atari Program Exchange (APX) in 1981, the same year, Atari, Inc., created an award to honor the year's best APX submission. The first Atari Star went to Herrera's My First Alphabet along with a $25,000 prize. Herrera partnered with Richard Spitalny, Billy Blake, and Peter Jablon and founded First Star Software.
The new company's debut title was Herrera's, space Shoot'em Up Astro Chase.
Publishing rights to the ColecoVision alongside the Atari 5200 was acquired by Parker Brothers with a $250,000 royalty advance.
