Aston Martin Creditors Threaten Court Action Over Branding Deal

Aston Martin’s creditors are threatening legal action over a controversial financing deal that would transfer control of half its non-automotive branding rights.

Lenders owed approximately £1.3 billion have reportedly issued a “letter before action”, challenging £550 million of new funding and the proposed sale of 50.1% of those licensing rights to US brand-management company Authentic Brands.

The arrangement covers merchandise and other non-car uses of the Aston Martin name, rather than ownership of the carmaker or automotive brand itself.

For enthusiasts, the dispute risks complicating refinancing and restricting investment in future sports cars. Aston Martin is now attempting to monetise the power of its name while existing creditors fight back.

No lawsuit is filed; Reuters could not verify the report.
