Jason Thornhill of Mossleigh, Alberta is man with a mission. He has turned "Aspen Crossing" a abandoned prairie railway branch line into a thriving tourist destination. The biggest attraction is his Aspen Crossing Railway complete with 1950's style passenger cars and a 1913 caboose. Visitors can go on about a 14 mile ride on the railway as it rumbles through the back country of southern Alberta. Passengers may even encounter a old style "hold up" as bad guys stop and board the train to collect donations for a worthy community cause. Back at the main station, visitors can shop at a well stocked gift shop and greenhouse. They can also enjoy some fine dining in a stationary old time dining car turned into a restaurant. This car was once a CN rail dining car used by a former Prime Minister of Canada. Thornhill has also developed a large full service RV park and campground where campers can relax. In addition, the enterprising farmer has 3 historic stationary cabooses fully renovated into cabins for overnight stays.
