The 2-day Asia-Pacific 2023 Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Forum took place as an exclusively in-person event in Manila, Philippines on November 7 –8, 2023. The Forum brought together approximately 150 CEOs and business owners who are WEPs signatories and aspiring to be signatories and practitioner-level business representatives, as well as representatives from Securities and Exchange Commissions, Stock Exchanges, industry associations and business clubs/circles, government agencies and development partners.
Launched in 2010 by UN Women and the UN Global Compact, the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are a set of 7 principles that provide companies a roadmap to become more gender-responsive throughout their value chain. The WEPs are the only framework that encompasses gender equality at all organizational levels, beginning with leadership and providing guidance for the workplace, marketplace and community, underpinned by a strong emphasis on accountability and transparent reporting of progress.

From Aceh, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), women are driving climate action to strengthen food security and build more resilient communities.
At EmPower National Forum: Local Action, National Impact, women leaders and community representatives shared how local initiatives are making a difference by:
💧 Protecting water springs
🌱 Turning waste into organic fertilizer and renewable energy
🌾 Strengthening community seed banks and local food systems
Their stories show that women are not only affected by climate change, but they are also leading the solutions.
EmPower: Women for Climate-Resilient Societies II is implemented by UN Women and UNEP, with support from the Governments of Germany, New Zealand, Sweden, and Switzerland. In Indonesia, EmPower supports the WRI consortium comprising the Aceh Climate Change Initiative, Gema Alam, and YAKINES.
