As part of our celebration of Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday, the Estonian Festival Orchestra—led by Paavo Järvi—made its Carnegie Hall debut last October with an all-Pärt program that featured the composer’s powerful “Credo.”

Neeme Järvi, Paavo’s father, conducted the work’s premiere on November 16, 1968. A dramatic, tortured, and brilliant culmination of Pärt’s early period, the piece emblematizes multiple powerful forces at work within the composer’s soul.
