“I think Musical Connections at Sing Sing afforded the men to solely to be themselves. Even with all of its structure and design to craft music and write songs... with someone like myself who writes inspiration or gospel music, the program didn't veer me away from that. It only added in a classical aspect to where I would want to write strings and horn parts for some of the jazz songs that I wrote. The program didn't veer us away from that, and inside of that, it allowed us to be ourselves and therefore for us to grow with one another, seeing us each for who we are.

In 2026, Carnegie Hall celebrates the 15th anniversary of Musical Connections by releasing Sing Sing Voices, a series of three video playlists that feature original music created by men incarcerated at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, a maximum‑security prison in New York. Shared publicly for the first time, the project includes nearly 50 songs written and performed during the longstanding residency in collaboration with Carnegie Hall teaching artists. Highlighting the creativity and humanity fostered through music, Grammy Award winners Common, Joyce DiDonato, and Arturo O’Farrill each introduce a playlist.
