As a guitarist I never really understood synthesizers, and actually for a time I considered electronic music to be "one button music". Ironically I spent an a lot of time and money buying multiple guitar pedals to make my guitar sound like a synthesizer. When in 2013 I received an Arturia Microbrute as a birthday present, I decided it was time to actually learn what terms like "LFO" and "envelope" actually meant. I very soon came to realise that these seemingly simple sculpting tools were capable of remarkably deep sound design, and my love for hardware synthesizers was born. The Microbrute is an analog monophonic synthesizer with a quite basic set of parameters, but it is capable of some truly spectacular sounds. In today's video I explore my first synthesizer and take a look at my first ever eurorack set-up, which was predicated on the modular features of the mighty Microbrute!
